With January coming to an end, it is time to prepare for Black History Month! Black History month is celebrated all of February. It was established around 1976 by President Gerald Ford. His goal was to honor the frequently overlooked or neglected accomplishments of Black women and men across America. One of my favorite ways to bring awareness to the accomplishments of the amazing African Americans who changed history is through my Black History Histogram Bulletin Board set.
Every day I highlight one of the instagram profile from the bulletin board set and students come up with questions that we have to research during our reading rotations. They answer the questions on a sticky note and stick it to the board. At the end of the day, we go over the questions and answers and think about why this person is remembered and how how they changed the world.
We also always have people stop by our bulletin board at the school to read through the different Histogram profiles! It is a school-favorite for sure, and so easy for me to assemble! I just print, past, and go! We also celebrate black history month through books. You can check out my favorite books here!
I also have bulletin board sets for Women’s History Month, Latino Heritage Month, and Scientists and Mathematicians.
