Charms Class is all about learning spells. There were two main parts to my Charms Class: reading the spell book and “casting” a spell. To cast the spells, students have to do a little science experiment. Before all of that though, we watched this snippet from Harry Potter about Charms class.

Spell Book

I started with the spell book. Students worked with their house and read through the book and practiced saying them with the correct wand movements. After 10-15 minutes of that, I had students go through and circle the three spells they thought were the most important for first year wizards to learn. Then we compiled everyone’s choices in a tally chart on the board. The spell book is a freebie I grabbed from this website.

Charms Experiments

I have included three experiments in my Harry Potter pack. I would suggest only doing one or two of the experiments because they do take some time. Included in the pack are experiments for Wingardium Leviosa, Engorgio, and Revelio.

The only experiment I did with my class was Revelio because it was easy and only required me to buy one thing. For this experiment students use baking soda and water to write a secret message on a piece of paper. After the message dries it will disappear. Then, another student paints on the paper with grade juice while saying Revelio! My students loved doing this charm, and I loved it because it was so simple!

My students thoroughly enjoyed Charms class. After Charms, we went outside for recess. Most students brought their spell books with them! It was adorable. Then they went to lunch and after lunch, they were ready to get back to our Harry Potter day. Up next? Potions Class.
